With no large estates, over 400,000 smallholders, each cultivating less than a quarter hectare of land, are responsible for the majority of coffee production in the country. Arabica beans dominate Rwanda's coffee landscape, and the Bourbon variety accounts for an impressive 95% of all coffee trees. The Kibirizi washing station receives cherries from approximately 1,130 farmers. This fully washed lot consistently yields a coffee known for its juicy and clean profile, with notes of black currants, dates, bergamot, and a sweet hint of dried fruit.
