Origin Story

Yara Estate was established in 1902 as a dairy estate, with coffee introduced in 1930. In 1971, the property was purchased by Gatatha Farmers Company, transforming the historic estate into a farmer-owned cooperative.
Located around 23 kilometres north of Nairobi in Kiambu, Yara spans approximately 640 acres of rolling highland terrain. Coffee and tea occupy the higher elevations, while lower areas support livestock feed and fish ponds. Five dams provide water for irrigation across the coffee fields. With rich red soils, reliable rainfall and generations of agricultural experience, Yara brings together the history of a traditional Kenyan estate with the stewardship of farmer ownership.

Our sourcing philosophy

Every coffee has a story. Every cup connects people. Sourcing coffee is not just about logistics and contracts. It’s about people, patience, and purpose. Every bag of green coffee represents someone’s work, someone’s story, and a shared pursuit of excellence.

Our relationships are built at Origin. We create partnerships built on respect, shared goals, and good coffee. We believe the best coffees come from long-term partnerships. Many of our producers have worked with us for years, refining the characteristics of the coffee we seek. These relationships are built on mutual respect and open communication. Travelling to visit our producing partners is key to nurturing relationships that matter.

Consistency and quality

From origin to roastery, every step is about consistency. Every shipment we receive is cupped and compared against its pre-ship sample to confirm that the coffee matches the quality and profile we expect. It’s a process that demands time and focus, but it’s what ensures every batch of Deluca coffee delivers on flavour and reliability.
