Perched on the fertile slopes of Mount Meru, Burka Estate is one of Tanzania’s oldest coffee estates. The estate spans over 500 hectares, with more than 300 hectares under coffee and approximately 477,000 trees planted in slightly acidic volcanic loams. The estate draws water from natural springs for washing and grows most of its coffee under shade to support plant health and quality. Beyond coffee, Burka places strong emphasis on improving livelihoods - employing around 150 staff, investing in occupational health and safety, and supporting sports and recreation programs that enhance quality of life for its community.

Flavour notes: Orange, Dried date, Earl Grey

Origin Story

This washed coffee from Burka Estate offers a structured, elegant cup grown on the slopes of Mount Meru in Arusha, north-east Tanzania. At 1,200-1,400 m, a mix of KP423, N39 and Catimor varieties thrive in volcanic soils, producing a balanced profile with citrus brightness, soft dried fruit sweetness and a gentle tea-like finish. Careful washing using spring water and shade grown cultivation preserve clarity and finesse, resulting in a clean, classic Tanzanian cup with depth and poise.

Process & care

Our sourcing philosophy

Every coffee has a story. Every cup connects people. Sourcing coffee is not just about logistics and contracts. It’s about people, patience, and purpose. Every bag of green coffee represents someone’s work, someone’s story, and a shared pursuit of excellence.

Our relationships are built at Origin. We create partnerships built on respect, shared goals, and good coffee. We believe the best coffees come from long-term partnerships. Many of our producers have worked with us for years, refining the characteristics of the coffee we seek. These relationships are built on mutual respect and open communication. Travelling to visit our producing partners is key to nurturing relationships that matter.

Consistency and quality

From origin to roastery, every step is about consistency. Every shipment we receive is cupped and compared against its pre-ship sample to confirm that the coffee matches the quality and profile we expect. It’s a process that demands time and focus, but it’s what ensures every batch of Deluca coffee delivers on flavour and reliability.
